Brian McKinney
In 1987, Brian McKinney joined the Dallas Fort Worth Airport Department of Public Safety as a public safety recruit. He served for three years in various Police and Fire Service Divisions, becoming a HazMat technician and a member of the hazardous materials team. In 1990, Brian served as a Fire Captain in the Fire Rescue Division. In 1992, he earned a promotion to Battalion Chief and served as the Hazardous Materials Coordinator and Shift Training Coordinator for the Fire Rescue Division. Receiving a promotion to Assistant Chief of Operations over the Fire Rescue Division in 1999, McKinney also served as Assistant Chief of Training over the Career Development Division and assumed responsibility for all Fire Training (internal and external) and Public Safety Applicant processing at DFW Airport. In 2007, McKinney became the Fire Chief of DFW International Airport. His duties include assisting in the overall planning, directing, and coordinating of Airport public safety functions; leading fire service emergency response programs; providing professional development of fire service personnel; managing an International Fire Training Research Center facility; providing customer safety programs; and participating in emergency and disaster planning. Under Chief McKinney’s leadership, DFW Airport Fire Service continues to set the standard of safety and training excellence the world has come to expect.

Mitch Iles
A member of the Fire Service industry since 2000, Captain Mitch Iles joined DFW International Airport in 2004. Captain Iles is the course coordinator and lead instructor for the Basic and Advanced ARFF courses, and hands-on skills offered through the DFW Fire Training Research Center. Captain Iles also schedules and coordinates all research projects that are done at the FTRC. He holds current certifications with the Texas Commission on Fire Protection as an Advanced Aircraft Rescue Firefighter, Advanced Structural Firefighter, HazMat Technician, Training Facility Instructor, and is an EMT. Captain Iles is a front-line supervisor bringing field experience into the classroom for all students.
Jack Parnell
Captain Jack Parnell has been a firefighter for over 23 years. He has served as a skilled paramedic, firefighter, apparatus operator, and field training officer. Parnell has been a captain since January 2017 and is currently a lead instructor at the Fire Training Research Center. He teaches numerous classes in Basic ARFF as well as Instructor I and II. He is lead instructor for the AI40 and Fire Officer classes. In addition, Parnell coordinates fire ground operation days consisting of multiple agencies, multiple classes, multiple props, and VIP tours/demos.
Ray Werner
Ray Werner is a Firefighter assigned to the Career Development Division of DFW International Airport Department of Public Safety. He is an Instructor for Basic and Advanced ARFF as well as a curriculum developer for internal and external customers. Werner has 32 years of service as a firefighter and EMT; 20 years of service as a firefighter in the U.S. Air Force, 4 years as an “on-call” volunteer with small rural departments in the state of Kansas, and 8 years at DFW Airport. His firefighter experience spans seven countries and ten states. As an instructor at the Department of Defense Fire Academy for five years, Werner taught firefighters from all four branches of the U.S. Armed Forces. At the FTRC, students from Germany, the Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Beijing, Canada, and across the United States learn from his experiences. Werner earned his Associates Degree of Applied Science in Instruction of Technology and Military Science from the Community College of the Air Force in 1997. Because of his extensive Air Force training, Ray is the training center's go-to-guy for information on aircraft firefighting.
Randal Rhodes
Battalion Chief Randal Rhodes is the training Chief for the Fire Training Research Center. He has 18 years of service with DFW Department of Public Safety with a background in training of police, fire, and EMS personnel. He is a licensed paramedic, aeronautical flight paramedic, master peace officer, field examiner, and fire service instructor II. Chief Rhodes brings 20 years of Air Force flight training to the Research Center curriculum and holds a bachelor's degree in biology - biological research.

Kendrick Espadron
Originally from New Orleans, Louisiana, Kendrick Espadron's 18 years of experience in offshore oil and gas is invaluable at the DFW Fire Training Research Center. He has over ten years experience as a control room operator and supervisor. D.O.T. and D.O.I. certified, Espadron works on, tests, and maintains the natural gas and oil pipelines and valves.

Bonnie Barlow
Captain Barlow joined DFW International Airport as a Firefighter in 2002. She has served as a Police Officer, Firefighter, Emergency Medical Technician, Apparatus Operator as well as Field Training Officer. As an FTO, she trained new operators on structural apparatus as well as the Striker 4500. She has been a Captain since January 2015 and a Lead Instructor at the FTRC until October 2016 when she reassigned as Station Captain at Fire Station 4. She teaches numerous classes in the Basic ARFF, Instructor I and II, and is a Lead Instructor for the AI40 and Fire Officer II classes. Captain Barlow has coordinated countless fire ground operation days consisting of multiple agencies, multiple classes, multiple props, and VIP tours/demos.

A member of the Fire Service industry since 1997, Captain Jim Bradshaw joined DFW International Airport in 2003. Captain Bradshaw is a Lead Instructor for Strategies and Tactics for Aviation Incidents, Fire Services Instructor I and II, Fire Officer I, and all live fire and practical skills offerings through the DFW Fire Training Research Center. He holds current certifications as an Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighter, Texas Structural Firefighter, and Basic Emergency Medical Technician.
Stan Jones
Captain Stanley M. Jones, joined the DFW International Airport Department of Public Safety over 25 years ago, achieving the rank of Captain in 2000. Currently assigned to the A shift of the Career Development Division at DFW International Airport Department of Public Safety, Captain Jones’ responsibilities include running his station and overseeing all aspects of firefighting and rescue training conducted at the DFW Fire Training Research Center. Captain Jones also serves as a member of the DFW Fire Honor Guard.
Pedro Arellano
Pedro Arellano began his career with DFW International Airport 28 years ago and became a firefighter in 2010, serving as an Apparatus Operator for the past two years. Arellano teaches ARF, EVOC, Tactics and Strategies, A140, and BA48 in Latin both on and off campus. He is actively involved with Costa Rica, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, and Dominican Republic groups as an ARFF International Instructor. As an off-campus ARFF instructor, Arellano traveled to Mexico South East (ASUR), Mexico Pacific (GAP), and Colombia (SACKS).
Jason Basaldua
Jay Basaldua became an Instructor/Investigator for the DFW Fire Training Research Center Public Safety Experience in 1996. His educational achievements include a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Project Management, a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Occupational Safety & Health, and an Associate of Science (AS) in Fire Science. Basaldua teaches the following courses: Fire Investigator, Fire Inspector, Firefighter Basic, Driver/Operator, Fire Service Instructor III, Fire Officer II, (TCFP) III/IV (Pro Board), ARFF Basic, Live Burns, Instructor I, and BARFF.
Jacob Evans
Jacob Evans began his fire career as a volunteer firefighter in high school. Upon graduation, he joined the Air Force where he served as an Air Force Fire Protection Specialist. Evans experience includes that of a federal firefighter and an airport operations specialist for Contra Costa County Airports. He joined DFW International Airport in DPS Fire Operations in 1999.
Mark Gray
Mark Gray joined DFW International Airport as a firefighter in 2008, serving as an Apparatus Operator since 2016. Gray in an instructor for the Driver/Operator/Pumper course and the all new Aerial class. He also assists in teaching the EVOC class. Gray is a certified EMT-B.
Jeff Jarecke
A firefighter veteran of over 30 years, Jeff Jarecke joined the DFW International Airport firefighter force in 2001. He served as a Fire Training Specialist Instructor with the Career Development Division from 2001-2008. Jarecke is a Fire Training Officer with certifications as a Fire Officer II, Fire Service Instructor II, Firefighter/ARFF, Driver/Operator, NFPA Fire Safety Officer, and National Registered EMT. He is Lead Instructor for Adapting Structural Firefighting to Aircraft Incidents for the DFW Fire Training Research Center. A member of the Fire Instructors Association of North Texas since 2002, Jarecke served as Vice President from March 2004-2007. He is also an adjunct instructor for Tarrant County College.

Brian Poulston
A veteran firefighter since 2004, Brian Poulston joined DFW International Airport in 2008. Poulston teaches Airport Familiarization, Truck Operations, and FAR 139 Recertification courses at the DFW Fire Training Research Center. He has taught ARFF courses to many special groups at the FTRC including firefighters from the Dominican Republic, China, Virgin Islands, and Canada. Poulston has a Bachelor of Science in Aviation Business Administration from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.
Christopher Simmel
Beginning a career in firefighting in 1999 with the Sherman, Texas Fire Department, Christopher Simmel joined the force at DFW Fire Operations Division in 2004 and transferred to Fire Career Development Division in 2010. He has state certifications as Advanced Structural Firefighter, Driver Operator Pumper, Driver Operator Aerial, Advanced Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighter, Hazmat Technician, Fire Instructor II, Fire Officer II, and Field Examiner. Simmel continues to respond to emergency calls on shift while assisting with classroom and field instruction at the Fire Training Research Center. He is the Lead Instructor for Driver Operator Pumper Operator and the Driver Operator Aerial Operator courses and assists in teaching the Emergency Vehicle Operator Course, Basic Aircraft Fire Fighting Courses, Instructor I, and Instructor II.
Thomas Stetson
Thomas Stetson began his firefighting career in 2012 at DFW International Airport. He is certified as a EMT-Basic and serves on the force as a firefighter.
John Barzyk
John Barzyk has been a firefighter at DFW Airport for 12 years and is a licensed EMT-B. Prior to becoming a firefighter, John taught Junior High School Mathematics in Arlington ISD for 5 years. This teaching experience lends him well in teaching firefighters from all over the world at the DFW FTRC. Barzyk is the Course Coordinator and Lead Instructor for the ARFF EVOC class. He also assists in the instruction of the Driver/Operator Pumper class as well as the driver sections of the BARFF 80 class. He will also be an instructor in the all new Driver/Operator Aerial class.
Paul DeVaul
Paul DeVaul is a firefighter assigned to the Career Development Division of DFW International Airport Department of Public Safety. Firefighter DeVaul is the Lead Instructor for the High Reach Extendable Turret (HRET) course of instruction. He has 23 years of public safety service as a firefighter and emergency medical technician and 17 years as a police officer. His other certifications include Fire Fighter Advanced, ARFF Advanced, Fire Officer I and Fire Instructor I & II. DeVaul has taught firefighters from the UK, Japan, China, Canada as well as numerous firefighters from around the United States.

Delmar Langan has been a firefighter at DFW Airport for 20 years. He assists with the hands-on instruction on the training ground at the Fire Training Research Center. Langan is an EMT and has his basic fire inspector certification.
Jeff Williams
I started my fire career in 2010 at DFW Airport as a firefighter and EMT. I am involved with Fire Training Research Center facility support and maintenance of fire props. I am also an Instructor who is involved in hands-on instruction to include tower, SAFT, Hydrocarbon Pit, and A380 fires. I am currently assigned to Station 4 as a firefighter at the operations level. At Station 4 I assist new hires to DFW with mentoring and transitioning to shift work.
Bill Piganelli
Bill Piganelli started his fire career in 1999 with the City of Bradford, Pennsylvania. where he was a third generation firefighter. Upon moving to Texas, Piganelli began with DFW Airport Fire Rescue in 2006. Currently, Piganelli is a Firefighter/EMT at the operations level and an auxiliary instructor teaching driver operator, aerial operations, and forcible entry with the Basic ARFF classes. He is also certified in rope rescue, trench rescue, and a hazmat technician.
Chuck Knowles
Charles Knowles is a firefighter assigned to the Career Development Division of DFW International Airport Department of Public Safety. Firefighter Knowles is an Instructor for Basic and Advanced ARFF as well as developing curriculum for internal and external customers. He has 17 years of public safety service as a firefighter, police/tactical officer, and emergency medical technician. Chuck has taught firefighters from the Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Beijing, Canada, and across the United States. Chuck is passionate when it comes to instructing all things ARFF and brings with him a professional attitude. He believes instructing ARFF is more than just developing sound tactics; it is about developing relationships in the ARFF community.
Luis Ferrer
Luis Ferrer is currently a firefighter at DFW International Airport Department of Public Safety. He joined the DPS team in June of 2017. Originally from New York, Ferrer is a U.S. Air Force veteran and served as an active duty firefighter with 20 years of experience. While serving, Luis obtained IFSAC certifications and USAF level training in Advanced Rescue, Hazmat, Company Officer, Fire Inspector, Fire Instructor, and Arson Investigation. Ferrer earned an AAS in Fire Science and an undergraduate degree in Security Management with certificates in Homeland Security and Cyber Forensics. Prior to joining the DFW team, Luis was the Base OJT Manager at McConnell AFB; directly responsible for the military career training of service members. He also worked for Butler County Community College in Kansas as an EMT lab assistant and interned with the Wichita, Kansas Fire Department. Ferrer is a Texas state and Nationally Registered EMT. He teaches Basic ARFF and assists with the Advanced ARFF Tactics and Strategies course. He has helped train firefighters from Mexico, Costa Rica, Jamaica, and Hawaii.
